AFRICA DAY AT TARAS SHEVCHENKO UNIVERSITY 🇺🇦

At the invitation of the Rector of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Volodymyr Bugrov, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Mozambique, Rostyslav Tronenko, participated online in the celebration of Africa Day, organised by the referred university with the organisational support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The event on May 28, 2025, on the occasion of International Africa Day and inauguration of the Centre for African Studies at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, brought together diplomats and academics from African countries and Ukraine, students and representatives of the African community in our country. The event was moderated by the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Kseniia Smyrnova.

The Special Representative of Ukraine for the Middle East and Africa, Maksym Subkh, praised the opening of the Centre for African Studies, spoke about the importance of launching the master's programme in African Studies at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, and paid special attention to the creation of the Association of Citizens of African Countries - Graduates of Higher Education Institutions of Ukraine, which should contribute to the promotion of relations between Ukraine and African countries.

The participants of the event highlighted:

•    The importance of ongoing dialogue between Ukraine and African countries;

•    Ukraine's commitment to deepening political, economic and cultural relations with Africa, especially in times of global challenges;

•    The active role of the African diaspora in promoting friendship and bilateral cooperation;

•    The need for international solidarity, based on shared values such as peace, justice and development;

•    The perception of Africa as a strategic partner in the contemporary international system;

•    The importance of education as a bridge of understanding between peoples.

The event ended with the signing of memoranda of cooperation between Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University and Nelson Mandela University/Human Rights Centre of the University of Pretoria (South Africa) and the University of Khartoum (Republic of Sudan).
