On Sunday, February 22, 2026, the Embassyʼs of Ukraine personnel, led by Ambassador Rostyslav Tronenko, joined the Ukrainian community, Ambassadors and senior representatives of the diplomatic corps, friends of Ukraine, and parishioners at the Greek Orthodox Church of Saints Michael and Gabriel in Maputo for a joint Mass for peace in Ukraine.
The liturgical service was held on the occasion of the National Day of Prayer in Ukraine to mark four years since the start of Russia's large-scale aggression against Ukraine and also 12 years of illegal occupation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol — a flagrant violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
We prayed for the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom and sovereignty of Ukraine, for the innocent victims of this war, and for a just, comprehensive and lasting peace.
During the Mass, icons of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the works of Ukrainian iconographers Sofia Atlantova, Oleksandr and Herman Klymenko, drawn on fragments of ammunition boxes brought from the front line, were also presented in Mozambique for the first time. They are silent testimonies to the war and, at the same time, symbols of the victory of life over death.
We express our sincere gratitude to Father Silvio, the Ambassadors and senior representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, the Ukrainian сommunity, the friends of Ukraine and all parishioners of the Greek Orthodox Church for their solidarity, support and prayers for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people.
