Maputo welcomes the 22nd Cycle of European Cinema. For the first time, Ukraine will participate in this important cultural event with the film "20 Days in Mariupol".

From April 28th to May 8th, 2025, the Delegation of the European Union to Mozambique and the embassies of Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Ukraine will present national films at the auditorium of the French-Mozambican Cultural Centre in Maputo. The films cover such important topics as human rights, inclusion, environment, migration, mental health, and Russian aggression against Ukraine. 

Admission to all screenings is free, 11 films of various genres (comedies, documentaries and dramas) are offered in the original language with Portuguese subtitles. 

Viewers can also take part in thematic debates after the screenings. 

Daily sessions take place at 17:00 and 19:00, with an additional screening at 10:30 on Saturday, 3 May. Download the programme here.

UKRAINE will present the documentary "20 DAYS IN MARIUPOL" directed by Mstislav Chernov. 

The screening will take place on 5 May 2025 at 19:00

The film tells the story of a team of Ukrainian journalists from the Associated Press, led by director Mstislav Chernov, who were in the city of Mariupol at the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. As the only international reporters in the city, they documented the horrific scenes of aggression, capturing images that later became symbols of the brutality of Russia's war against Ukraine: killing of children, mass graves, and bombing of hospitals and maternity wards.
