The Declaration proclaimed the supremacy, independence, and indivisibility of Uk
raine’s power, the right of the Ukrainian people to self-determination, their own citizenship, economic and cultural independence, as well as the right to establish direct relations with other states.
This document laid the legal and political foundations to restore Ukraine’s independence on August 24, 1991.
Today, as Ukraine has been defending against Russia’s aggression for over 11 years, we are once again proving to the entire world that our sovereignty is a value we are ready to protect. Ukrainians are defending not only for their land, but also for the right to live freely, speak their language, and develop their own culture.
