Today, on 23 May, on the Day of Heroes of Ukraine and the Day of the Ukrainian Marines, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Mozambique with Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Mozambique honoured the memory of all those who gave their lives for the independence, freedom and dignity of our country.
On this date, we remember the heroes of all times who fought and continue to fight for the independence of our country: the soldiers who gave and are giving their lives for our country on the battlefield, as well as those who ensure the stability of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and civil society of Ukraine. We also express our deepest gratitude today to the Ukrainian Marines for their dedication, bravery and valour.
In the context of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, these two dates have acquired even deeper and more bitter meaning - we remember the fallen heroes and thank the defenders who are living today.
Today, Ambassador of Ukraine to Mozambique Rostyslav Tronenko, Honorary Consul od Ukraine in Mozambique Abilio Soeiro and the Embassy staff laid flowers at the Memorial in the Square of Heroes of Mozambique in Maputo, a place that is a symbol of the Mozambican people's struggle for freedom. This act is an expression of deep respect for the heroes of both our nations - Ukrainian soldiers of all generations and Mozambican liberation fighters.

This symbolic gesture close to Africa Day and a month before the 50th anniversary of Mozambique's independence is a testament to the solidarity between our peoples, who share a common historical experience of the struggle for freedom, as well as long-standing partnerships that date back to Ukraine's support for the national liberation movement in Mozambique. Today, we continue to build strong partnerships based on mutual respect and solidarity.
The memory of heroes is not only a tribute to the past, but also an inspiration for a common future based on freedom, respect, solidarity and international law.
Glory to the Heroes of Ukraine!
