UNESCO included two Ukrainian dates in the Calendar of anniversaries to celebrate in 2026–2027.
- 100th anniversary of the foundation of the National Historical and Cultural Preserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra”. The monument itself dates back to the 11th-century cave monastery, which over the millennium developed into an important spiritual centre and an architectural landmark. The National Historical and Cultural Preserve, established in 1926, ensured its proper preservation.
- 150th anniversary of the birth of Ukrainian composer and conductor Mykola Leontovych. Born on December 13, 1877, he had a profound influence on Ukrainian culture. Leontovych is best known as the author of Shchedryk, a Christmas song based on traditional Ukrainian melodies – later cherished worldwide as Carol of the Bells.
We are grateful for this decision that highlights Ukrainian culture and centuries-old heritage – let’s celebrate them together-
